Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rejected rumors suggesting Joe Gomez sought to depart from the club. Since joining Liverpool in 2015 from Charlton Athletic, Gomez has accumulated nearly 200 appearances for the team. Despite concerns about his future due to injuries, Klopp has consistently expressed faith in Gomez’s talents and dedication to the squad.

Klopp emphasized his unwavering belief in Gomez’s abilities, affirming that the player’s commitment to Liverpool has never been in doubt. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo (via the Mirror), Klopp stated, “I think Joe is absolutely at home here so that is the No.1 reason (he is still here).”

Acknowledging Gomez’s injury struggles, Klopp highlighted the challenges faced during Gomez’s tenure, clarifying that the number of matches he’s played doesn’t reflect doubts about his capabilities. The manager recalled Gomez’s pivotal role alongside Virgil van Dijk during Liverpool’s successful seasons, acknowledging his contributions despite intermittent injuries.

Addressing speculations about Gomez’s desire to leave, Klopp clarified that such discussions never transpired, asserting, “He never came to my office and asked: ‘Can I go?’ No, never. It was always sorted before it could get to that point. We sorted a new contract, he wanted to sign and he wanted to stay. I think he and his wife really feel he is Liverpool through and through and so that is the reason more than anything else.”

Klopp emphasized Gomez’s deep connection to Liverpool, citing his and his wife’s strong feelings of loyalty to the club.

Gomez’s existing contract with Liverpool extends until summer 2027. Throughout this season, he has participated in 24 games across various competitions, notably stepping in as a left-back due to injuries within the team. With forthcoming fixtures including an FA Cup clash against Arsenal and a Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham, Gomez is expected to continue contributing to Liverpool’s campaign.
