Manchester United has officially confirmed Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25% stake in the club, valued at £1.3 billion, from the Glazer family. Initially desiring majority ownership, Ratcliffe has settled for a minority stake and will inject £237 million into the club. Ratcliffe, Chairman of INEOS, will oversee football operations and invest an additional $300 million for future developments at Old Trafford.

As part of the agreement, INEOS will manage all aspects of men’s and women’s football operations and academies, gaining two seats on Manchester United PLC and Football Club boards. Ratcliffe, expressing his commitment as a lifelong supporter, aims to utilize global knowledge from INEOS Sport to elevate the club’s performance on and off the pitch. The Glazers, who sought a full sale last year, will receive £650 million from the Class B shares sale, with the remaining funds allocated to minority shareholders.

Ratcliffe’s investment also prioritizes infrastructure improvements, including a significant allocation for the Carrington training ground. The move comes as Manchester United grapples with on-field challenges, sitting eight points away from the Premier League top four.
