Napoli’s standout forward, Victor Osimhen, recently penned an extended contract, binding him with the Serie A titleholders until 2026. The club’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, shared images capturing the momentous occasion, showcasing Osimhen and him finalizing the deal with smiles, handshakes, and the word “done.”
This development adds to the positive streak for the newly crowned African Player of the Year. His previous contract was slated to conclude in 2025. Italian media outlets have indicated a substantial increase in his earnings to €10 million ($11m) annually, along with a release clause valued between €120m and €130m.
During the prior summer, Napoli reportedly declined an offer exceeding €200m for Osimhen from a Saudi Arabian team. The Nigerian forward, soon to turn 25, was acquired from Lille in 2020 for roughly €75m and has since earned a reputation as one of the most electrifying strikers globally.
His instrumental role in propelling Napoli to the Serie A championship last season, marked by his 26 goals securing him as the first African player to clinch the Italian league’s top scorer title, solidified his status.
However, this season started on a mixed note following the change in coaching staff from Luciano Spalletti to Rudi Garcia. In September, a potential mid-season departure seemed plausible as Osimhen, visibly upset, removed almost all team-related posts from his social media after the club posted a taunting video of him.
Further challenges arose as Osimhen sustained an injury while on international duty, coinciding with Garcia’s replacement by Walter Mazzarri at the helm.
Despite these obstacles, Osimhen has netted seven league goals this season, positioning himself as the third top scorer in the league.
