Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has been excluded from Besiktas’ team, along with four other players, only 98 days after joining the Turkish club. The decision, announced by Besiktas’ Football Teams General Coordinator Samet Aybaba, cites poor performance and incompatibility within the team as reasons for Bailly’s exclusion.
Bailly, who joined United from Villarreal in 2016, struggled with inconsistent form and was sent on loan to Marseille in 2022 before moving to Besiktas. Injuries limited his appearances this season, contributing to his exclusion from the squad. The surprising exit follows an agent’s bizarre claim of placing a curse on Bailly, alleging the defender owed him money. The agent, involved in Bailly’s transfer to Besiktas, sent threatening messages, including legal action and physical violence.
The agent asserted a successful curse after Besiktas’ recent loss, where Bailly conceded a penalty. Besiktas has reported the issue to the police, and FIFA may be involved, given their oversight of agents. Bailly’s official representative, his uncle Severin Bohui, denies any involvement of the abusive agent in the Besiktas deal.
