Lazio struggled to secure more than a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Hellas Verona in Serie A, despite dominating the game and Verona ending with 10 players. Maurizio Sarri, Lazio’s coach, had dismissed talk of a crisis following their recent Italian Cup victory, yet their league performance has been lacklustre, with just one win in their last five matches, placing them eighth. Meanwhile, Verona, winless since August, remains in the bottom three.

The match saw Lazio take the lead in the 23rd minute through a stunning goal by Mattia Zaccagni, courtesy of excellent teamwork with Manuel Lazzari. However, their lead didn’t last, as Verona equalized with 20 minutes left. Cyril Ngonge’s cross turned into an unexpected shot, parried by Ivan Provedel, leading to an opportunistic goal by Thomas Henry.

Although Lazio believed they had reclaimed the lead with Nicolò Casale’s header from a corner, the goal was disallowed after a video review found Casale guilty of a foul on Verona’s Ondrej Duda. Verona was reduced to 10 men in the final 13 minutes following Duda’s dismissal for a second yellow card.

Ultimately, Lazio’s dominance couldn’t secure them the win they sought against a struggling Verona side, leaving them with a disappointing draw and further complicating their Serie A standing.
