Defender Federico Gatti continued his scoring streak, netting his second goal in as many games to secure Juventus a 1-0 home win against champions Napoli. This victory propelled Juventus to the top of Serie A in a closely contested match between the league’s powerhouses.

Gatti, playing as a center-back, rose above the rest shortly after halftime to head in the decisive goal, making the difference in a tightly fought encounter.

The win in Turin propelled Juventus to the league’s summit, although Inter Milan could reclaim their two-point lead if they win against Udinese on Saturday.

“Winning this evening was very important, because we put Napoli at -12 and that is a great result,” Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri stated to DAZN. “As for dreams and the Scudetto, we need to keep improving step by step, especially when we make too many mistakes,” he added.

Napoli, positioned fifth, had the upper hand in the initial exchanges and seemed more likely to score in the first half. Matteo Politano narrowly missed a chance on goal early on, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia squandered a golden opportunity before the half-hour mark.

Despite Napoli’s strong start, Juventus took charge after the break. Dusan Vlahovic struck the post, and shortly after, Andrea Cambiaso’s delivery found Gatti, who rose high to head home the crucial goal.

This marked Gatti’s second consecutive winning goal for Juventus, following his late strike against Monza the previous week.

While Szczesny’s near-mistake almost allowed Osimhen to equalize, the linesman’s flag denied Napoli’s hopes of a goal, and Juventus comfortably held on for the win.

Despite the defeat, Napoli’s coach, Walter Mazzarri, highlighted the positives, praising his team’s dominant performance that kept Juventus defending for much of the second half.

However, Gatti’s third goal of the season, the most among Serie A defenders this season, proved to be the decisive factor as Napoli suffered their fifth loss of the campaign, one more than their total from the previous season.
