Arsenal received a cautionary note from Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, regarding any potential January move for Aaron Ramsdale, who is currently out of favor at Arsenal.

Nick Pope’s absence for five months, following a shoulder dislocation during a recent match against Manchester United, has prompted considerations within Newcastle to potentially pursue former Manchester United goalkeeper and free agent, De Gea.

While Toon’s Martin Dubravka is set to step in temporarily, Howe is contemplating whether to seek a replacement. Meanwhile, Ramsdale, sidelined at Arsenal and valued at over £40 million for a January transfer, remains an option.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, expressed contentment with having two strong goalkeepers and affirmed Ramsdale’s stay, emphasizing the club’s intention to reinforce the team in January.

Despite this, Ramsdale faces warnings from England’s coach, Gareth Southgate, about risking his spot in the European Championships squad without regular game time. His father has also criticized Arsenal’s handling of Ramsdale’s replacement.

Arteta, however, remains optimistic about Ramsdale’s international prospects, aiming to help him improve at Arsenal to secure his place in the national team.

Since his signing from Sheffield United in 2021, Ramsdale has seen limited Premier League action and has been primarily on the bench for Arsenal’s Champions League fixtures.

Pope’s unfortunate injury compounds Newcastle’s injury woes, with the goalkeeper requiring surgery and facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, potentially impacting his chances for both club and country.

De Gea, previously a stalwart at Manchester United, departed after contract negotiations fell through and has since remained without a club, despite his previous accolades.

The absence of suitors for De Gea and Pope’s injury exacerbate the challenges faced by Howe’s injury-plagued squad, with the seasoned goalkeeper’s return to play this season in doubt.
