Manchester United is under investigation for reportedly serving undercooked chicken during an event at Old Trafford. Following this event, several attendees claimed to have fallen ill. The Trafford Council is conducting an inquiry, alongside an internal investigation initiated by United after receiving multiple complaints, according to The Athletic.

The purpose of these investigations is to ascertain whether the illnesses were caused by the food consumed at Old Trafford. The club has not yet responded to these accusations.

The council holds the authority to demand immediate improvements and, if there’s a perceived risk to public health, can suspend or close parts or the entirety of a business until safety measures are met.

Despite United’s current impeccable food hygiene rating of five on the government’s website, their annual inspection by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) was scheduled for October 23 to reassess the food served. The FSA has yet to release the updated rating for the club. A potential downgrade in hygiene rating could significantly impact United’s finances, given their revenue from events and hospitality.

This news coincides with the impending purchase of a minority stake in the club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the UK’s second wealthiest individual. His acquisition will involve taking charge of the club’s football operations and implementing substantial changes.

As a result of these developments, United’s CEO Richard Arnold, who has been with the club since 2007, will step down from his position. His temporary replacement is the club’s General Counsel, Patrick Stewart.

Arnold expressed gratitude for the privilege of serving the club for 16 years, acknowledging the dedication of employees and fans and extending well wishes for the club’s future endeavors.
