A South Korean footballer, Norwich City forward Hwang Ui-jo, 31, who is currently on loan from Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, faces accusations of illicitly recording a sexual encounter with his former partner. Allegations suggest he filmed the encounter without consent and shared the footage on social media. Hwang vehemently denies these accusations.

Amid a police investigation into the matter, the Korea Football Association’s ethics committee has suspended Hwang from international duty until the investigation concludes. Norwich City is reportedly aware of the situation and is monitoring the developments closely.

Hwang’s participation in the upcoming Asian Cup in January, anticipated after his recent goal-scoring performance, is now uncertain due to his suspension from the national team.

The KFA committee stated, “We have decided not to select Hwang Ui-jo for the national team until a clear conclusion is reached on the facts,” Jurgen Klinsmann, the national team coach, expressed his understanding of the decision, respecting the KFA’s stance.

Head of the KFA ethics committee, Lee Youn-nam, emphasized the expectation for national players to uphold high moral standards and responsibility. Given the ongoing investigation and the gravity of the allegations, they found it inappropriate to include Hwang in national team activities.

Despite continuous denial of the allegations, Hwang, who moved to Norwich from Nottingham Forest in the summer, remains embroiled in the controversy. While he has contributed to Norwich City’s Championship campaign, he is yet to make an appearance for the team in the Premier League under Steve Cooper’s management.
