The distinctive goal celebration of the revered Liverpool player involves a unique stance that carries significant meaning.

When Mohamed Salah celebrates scoring goals, he often assumes a pose known as Vrikshasana, or the tree pose in yoga. This posture, derived from the Sanskrit terms ‘Vriksha’ (meaning tree) and ‘Asana’ (meaning posture), involves standing on one leg with hands together near the chest.

Reportedly, this pose not only helps in strengthening leg muscles, tendons, and ligaments but also aids in alleviating stress and depression.

While some individuals on the platform formerly known as Twitter speculated that Salah’s gesture was a message of peace to Chelsea fans following an unpleasant incident, yoga instructor Emma Stubbs offered an alternative interpretation. She explained that the tree pose symbolizes balance and grounding—establishing a connection with the earth and surroundings.

According to Stubbs, Salah’s display of the tree pose could signify his dedication to Anfield and Liverpool by symbolically connecting with the place and the club.

Furthermore, the positioning of the hands in front of the heart centre, instead of extended overhead as commonly practised in the tree pose, signifies honouring oneself and those close to them, acknowledging the soul.

By combining these elements, Salah might have been honouring his teammates and the Liverpool supporters while expressing his attachment and allegiance to Anfield through his celebration.

In April 2019, after scoring a remarkable goal against Chelsea, Salah introduced this unique celebration, which marked a pivotal moment in the match, securing a 2-0 victory for Liverpool. His incredible strike, akin to an arrow finding its target, left goalkeeper Kepa with no chance to stop it.

Since then, Salah has occasionally showcased this tree pose celebration, including during Liverpool’s impressive 4-0 win over Manchester United in April 2022, where he netted two goals.

Salah briefly mentioned his inspiration for the celebration in an interview with Sky Sports, humorously stating, “I am a yoga man! “I do yoga and it just came into my mind.”
