Donny van de Beek, a player overlooked at Manchester United, emphasized his indifference towards financial gain as he expressed the necessity of leaving the club. His tenure since joining in 2020 has been a struggle, with limited playing time and a loan spell at Everton during the latter part of the 2021/22 season.

Despite aiming to impress Erik ten Hag, an unfortunate knee injury disrupted van de Beek’s prospects last season, prompting the realization that departing in January, even with a reduced salary, is imperative for his career progression.

“I need to start playing games very soon – if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious,” van de Beek remarked, as reported by the Mirror. “I have always been a lover of the game. I am absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.”

Having only featured twice for United this season, van de Beek revealed that the injury phase heightened his appreciation for the game, intensifying his yearning for consistent first-team involvement.

“Last season I was sidelined for months due to my knee injury. You miss it terribly,” he reflected. “I appreciate even more that I have a fabulous job. I am at a legendary club and I am still proud every day to wear the Manchester United shirt.

However, van de Beek, now fully fit and eager, expressed the necessity for a different career path given his current circumstances.

Sharing insights into United’s struggles, van de Beek acknowledged his own self-assessment amid the team’s underperformance. “People often talk about this being a mega-club. That is true, but even then it is difficult to see from the outside how big the club really is. It is such an unprecedented football stronghold.”

Expressing disappointment at the lack of game time despite performing well, van de Beek highlighted the complexities affecting success at the club. “I had hoped for more games when I was playing well, so you get into a flow. But you have to deal with more factors.” “Everyone wants to make United successful again, but they are not succeeding – and it’s hard to put your finger on it.”
