Tottenham Hotspur fans unleashed their fury at Matty Cash following the Aston Villa defender’s tackle that injured Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan was making his first start since February after a year marked by injuries. His return had injected vitality into Ange Postecoglou’s squad, providing a much-needed boost amid ongoing struggles due to injuries to players like James Maddison, Pape Sarr, and Yves Bissouma’s current suspension.

However, the situation worsened when Cash’s reckless challenge brought Bentancur down while he was advancing with the ball. Initially seeming innocuous, Cash, out of position, swiftly moved in and struck Bentancur’s knee with his right leg.

Bentancur initially tried to resume play but soon had to signal his inability to continue. This left Tottenham fans seething with anger. One fan expressed their enduring disdain for Cash, remarking on social media, “Bentancur just got back, Matty cash I will hate you forever,” Another called out the referee for not issuing a red card for Cash’s tackle, labeling it “pathetic refereeing.”

The frustration continued as another supporter highlighted Cash’s previous history of injuring Matt Doherty and expressed the Spurs players’ anger toward him. Meanwhile, a particularly irate Tottenham fan directly targeted Cash, condemning him as a “disgusting player.”

Bentancur’s struggle with injuries has persisted since his arrival from Juventus in the January 2022 transfer window. His brief 30-minute appearance against Villa marked only his third outing this season, following a year where he made just 18 appearances, contributing five goals and two assists for the North Londoners.
