During the coverage of the Everton versus Manchester United match at Goodison Park on Sunday, Sky Sports will reduce the volume of crowd noise. This decision stems from Everton’s recent 10-point deduction due to breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, leading to planned protests by dissatisfied fans during the game.

Expectedly, fans intend to voice their discontent through chants directed at the Premier League’s perceived corruption, causing concern about offensive language being broadcasted as the game kicks off at 4:30 pm, a time when families and children are likely to be watching. To adhere to Ofcom’s regulations against airing offensive content, Sky Sports has internally strategized to manage the issue by assuming responsibility and minimizing any offensive language transmitted on air.

The broadcaster has previously addressed similar situations by lowering crowd noise levels and utilizing pre-recorded fan sounds. Meanwhile, Everton’s fan group, ‘the 1878s,’ has reportedly gathered funds exceeding £40,000 to support the protests, including plans to fly a banner over a different match due to lighting constraints during Everton’s game.

In response to the deduction, Everton’s director of football, Kevin Thelwell, labeled the punishment as disproportionately severe. The club plans to appeal the decision, emphasizing the impact on their league position and expressing solidarity and determination to support the team through this ordeal on the field. Thelwell’s statement underscores their commitment to rallying and focusing on assisting the team’s performance despite the challenging circumstances.
