Fans were taken aback when Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City appeared to be credited as a co-writer on a fresh Drake track.

The rapper unexpectedly dropped an EP titled ‘Scary Hours 3’ on Friday (November 17). Amid enjoying Drake’s second release of the year, some fans noticed ‘K. De Bruyne’ is listed as a co-writer of the song ‘Wick Man’.

This sparked fan theories, suggesting the Premier League superstar might possess a hidden talent for songwriting. Social media lit up with praise for the 32-year-old, with one fan quipping, “Still assisting off the pitch,” while another rightly observed, “Kevin De Bruyne having a writing credit for a Drake song is the most random thing I’ve seen all day”

Known primarily for his football prowess, having amassed 153 assists at his club, the City and Belgian captain unexpectedly found himself the centre of attention in the music world. One enthusiast joked, “De Bruyne is about to show off music money.” De Bruyne himself teased the situation, stating that Drake “needed an assist” in a photo posted of them together.

While De Bruyne embraced the jests, he clarified, “All jokes aside, it’s not me! Huge fan though!” Despite this musical tangent, he’s earned acclaim as one of the world’s top players during his tenure at City. His journey began after a challenging stint at Chelsea, where he made only three appearances under Jose Mourinho.

Former teammate John Obi Mikel recently commented on De Bruyne’s Chelsea days, suggesting his attitude hindered his progress. “I think De Bruyne wasn’t the best trainer back then,” the Nigerian said.

“He was somebody that comes to training and probably because he wasn’t playing that much, always having his head down, always angry and sulking. He was like a kid who came to the playground and nobody wanted to play with him.”

De Bruyne eventually left Chelsea, moving to Wolfsburg in 2014. There, he showcased remarkable stats, scoring 20 goals and providing 27 assists in 70 games. His outstanding performance led to a £55 million transfer to Man City, setting a club-record fee at the time.
