Everton’s 10-point deduction for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules has sparked warnings from FFP expert and lawyer Stefan Borson. Borson, who has previously advised Manchester City, believes this sets a precedent that could lead to relegations for both Chelsea and Manchester City if found guilty.

Chelsea is under investigation for payments linked to former owner Roman Abramovich, while Manchester City faces 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules. Everton, vowing to appeal the sanction, faces legal complications, leaving both Chelsea and City in suspense.

Borson, expressing skepticism about Everton’s harsh penalty, emphasized the potential relegation-inducing nature of sanctions against City and Chelsea. He highlighted the need for Chelsea to reconsider their approach, especially considering the scale of the sporting sanction. The January window, he suggests, could become interesting as clubs navigate the evolving FFP landscape.

While Everton plans to appeal, City and Chelsea must await the outcomes of their ongoing investigations, with the threat of severe consequences looming over their respective seasons.
