Aaron Ramsdale’s father acknowledges that the goalkeeper has been visibly affected since losing his starting position as Arsenal’s No. 1 to summer acquisition David Raya.

Ramsdale, who had made a significant impact since joining the club in the summer of 2021, faced scrutiny when Raya arrived on loan from Brentford in a deal potentially reaching £27 million next summer.

Adding to Ramsdale’s challenge, Raya’s performances have been subpar, marked by notable mistakes against Chelsea and Newcastle United.

When questioned about his son’s coping mechanisms, Nick Ramsdale revealed the difficulty Aaron is experiencing.

According to Nick, Aaron is now designated as the cup goalkeeper, with David Raya taking the lead unless unforeseen circumstances like injury or suspension arise.

Nick emphasized the need to provide Aaron with an opportunity, expressing frustration at the decision-making process.

Despite the perceived mishandling of the situation, Nick acknowledged the finality of the decision, noting that Aaron had lost the joy he once had when holding the ball.

He admitted the situation is challenging, observing Aaron’s struggle and emphasizing the importance of encouraging him to maintain a positive outlook.

Mikel Arteta has consistently asserted that he doesn’t see Ramsdale as a secondary goalkeeper and brought in Raya to elevate competition within the squad.

Arteta, 41, admitted to wanting to substitute goalkeepers in previous matches but found it emotionally challenging to do so.

Throughout his time on the bench, Ramsdale has tried to project a resilient image but has openly expressed his frustration.

He highlighted the mutual support he shares with Raya in training, acknowledging the emotional toll of the situation.
