Premier League icon Cesc Fabregas is making a return to professional football and is set to embark on his debut as a senior coach.

This comes as he assumes the role of interim manager for Serie B club Como, succeeding Moreno Longo, who was recently dismissed. Despite Como’s current sixth position in Serie B and Longo’s victory over Ascoli, the club opted for a change.

At the age of 36, Fabregas concluded his playing career with Como in July 2023, completing one final season with the Lombardy-based team. His elevation to head coach on a temporary basis follows his impressive work with the ‘B’ team and youth setup.

Scheduled to debut as a senior coach against FeralpiSalo after the international break, Fabregas will have the next two weeks to acclimate to his new role. While many of the squad members are already familiar to him, this marks a significant step in his coaching career.

Fabregas, a two-time European champion with a career that included stints with Arsenal and Chelsea, expressed his passion for coaching and revealed his aspiration to manage in the Premier League.

Having been mentored by renowned tacticians such as Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, and Pep Guardiola during his playing days, Fabregas believes coaching has reignited a dormant passion within him.

As Como aims to end a 21-year absence from Serie A under Fabregas’ guidance, the seasoned midfielder acknowledges that his ultimate goal is the Premier League.

While recognizing the challenges ahead, he remains confident in his coaching methodology and emphasizes the importance of continuous learning in the coaching profession.

Transitioning from consistently competing among football’s elite during his playing career, Fabregas is poised to navigate a new challenge as he commences his coaching journey with Como.
