According to Fabrizio Romano, the Jeddah-based team is actively seeking the services of the renowned Italian defender to assume control of their sporting operations. The club is currently in a state of uncertainty following the dismissal of manager Nuno Espirito Santo, a move believed to be connected to a dispute with Karim Benzema. Consequently, they find themselves trailing leaders Al-Hilal by 11 points after just 13 games.

During the summer, Maldini was relieved of his duties as the technical director at Milan due to a restructuring of the management setup. Should Al-Ittihad succeed in enticing him to the Middle East, it would mark Maldini’s first venture with a club other than Milan. The five-time European Cup winner would be tasked with constructing a framework to maximize the potential of a player roster featuring Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Fabinho.

Following a 4-2 victory over Abha on Friday, Al-Ittihad is taking a hiatus for the November internationals before returning to face Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq on November 24.
