Raheem Sterling has escaped a ban despite being observed throwing an object into the crowd during Chelsea’s triumph over Tottenham. The FA initiated an inquiry after footage surfaced showing the English forward tossing an unidentified object into the stands at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The incident occurred after the object had been thrown at Cole Palmer while he was celebrating his equalizer. However, the FA concluded that Sterling would not face any disciplinary action.

Initial concerns suggested a potential three-match ban, a penalty previously imposed on Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher in 2008 and 2002, respectively, for tossing coins into the crowd.

Tottenham’s Richarlison also received a one-match ban for throwing a lit flare during a match against Chelsea last year.

The news of Sterling avoiding punishment will likely relieve Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to rely on the 28-year-old when facing his former team, Manchester City, at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Sterling played a crucial role in setting up Nicolas Jackson’s winning goal against Tottenham on Monday, contributing to Chelsea’s first victory over a ‘top six’ side since January 2022.

The match itself will be remembered as one of the most remarkable games in Premier League history.

VAR ruled out five goals, and Tottenham had two players sent off. Despite this, they maintained an aggressive high line throughout the second half.

Dejan Kulusevski provided an early lead for Tottenham, but Chelsea fought back after a series of VAR decisions and a red card for Spurs’ Cristian Romero.

Cole Palmer converted a penalty, and Nicolas Jackson secured a hat-trick in injury time, leading Chelsea to victory and handing Tottenham their first defeat under manager Ange Postecoglou.
