England’s national football team coach, Gareth Southgate, has made the decision to exclude Arsenal defender Ben White from the squad. Southgate emphasized that this choice is rooted in footballing considerations, asserting that there are players who currently outshine White in the given position.

Despite being a versatile 26-year-old capable of playing both as a central defender and right back, White’s absence from the England team since his early return from the Qatar World Cup has raised eyebrows. Southgate clarified that the decision is unrelated to any personal issues and commended White’s defensive prowess with Arsenal.

Probed on whether his non-selection is purely down to footballing reasons or if there was any lingering issue from his early World Cup departure, Southgate replied:  “No, again we’ve got Kyle [Walker], Kieran [Trippier], we’ve got Trent [Alexander-Arnold], we’ve got Reece James. It’s a position where we’ve got strength. As I said, there are a couple of good young ones coming through. And, again, we’re on a good run and the defense is playing well. So that’s where we are.”
