While Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero missed their much-anticipated reunion at Barcelona, two of Argentina’s most celebrated athletes are collaborating once again.

Messi, who recently clinched his record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or award, is set to become a co-owner of KRÜ Esports, a company founded by Aguero during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Initially, the company began by streaming games during lockdowns, but it has since expanded, with teams participating in prominent esports competitions like Valorant and Rocket League.

Aguero’s own involvement in the company has increased following his retirement from professional football in 2021 due to heart issues.

During the summer when both Aguero and Messi helped Argentina secure the Copa America, they appeared poised to join forces at the club level, with Aguero moving from Manchester City to Barcelona.

However, Messi left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) around the same time. Subsequently, Aguero joined the Argentina squad in a non-playing capacity for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they triumphed.

In a social media video, the 35-year-old Aguero expressed his excitement about sharing ownership of KRÜ with Messi, describing it as a new phase with fresh challenges.

He emphasized Messi’s unparalleled status as the greatest footballer in history and his role as a source of inspiration for everyone. Aguero, who had previously been rumoured to be leaving the company, welcomed Messi’s addition to the esports scene.

The video concluded with Messi on his laptop, raising his water bottle and smiling at the camera, and he uttered “Vamo a jugar,” which means “let’s play” in his native language, echoing the hashtag in Aguero’s post.

This announcement follows Messi’s impressive performance in Major League Soccer (MLS) with David Beckham’s Inter Miami, where he scored 11 goals in 14 games since his high-profile move in July.
