In a continuing saga of tensions at Manchester United, Jadon Sancho, the 23-year-old winger, has been axed from the club’s WhatsApp group. This latest move further distances the player, who has already been excluded from training with the senior team and using their facilities, including the canteen. Instead, he has been relegated to training on his own and changing in a separate dressing room within the academy section.
The discord between Sancho and the Red Devils began after his omission from the squad for a 3-1 loss at Arsenal in September. Manager Erik ten Hag asserted that Sancho’s training didn’t meet the required standards. Sancho defended himself on social media, stating, “I will not allow people to say things that are completely untrue; I conducted myself in training very well this week.” However, the post was later deleted, and an apology was never issued.
Efforts by staff and teammates to convince Sancho, who joined from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in July 2021, to reconcile have proven unsuccessful. The situation has not been helped by Marcus Rashford, who faced criticism after missing the Fulham match due to injury. He was accused of partying following the Manchester derby defeat. Sancho has managed just three Premier League appearances this season before his suspension.
