Harry Kane’s recent remarks are bound to send shivers down the spines of Bundesliga competitors and the cream of European football, as his astonishing start at Bayern Munich has taken another giant leap.

The English striker etched his name in the record books by becoming the first player to notch up 15 goals in his initial ten Bundesliga matches. His latest achievement came in the form of a hat-trick during Bayern’s impressive 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund this past Saturday.

Kane’s dazzling impact since his summer move from Tottenham for an initial fee of 100 million euros (£86.4 million) has ignited discussions about the potential jeopardy facing Robert Lewandowski’s all-time Bundesliga record. The former Bayern Munich striker, now plying his trade at Barcelona, set the bar high with his 41 league goals in the 2020-21 season, surpassing Gerd Muller’s long-standing record of 40 goals from 49 years ago. If Kane maintains his current trajectory, he’s on track to reach the elusive 50-goal mark.

Kane might even surpass the 52 goals that Erling Haaland achieved in all competitions during his inaugural season with Manchester City in the previous campaign.

Astoundingly, Kane is not the lone contender posing a significant threat to Lewandowski’s record, as Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy has amassed an impressive 14 goals in just nine league games. The France-born Guinea international, who previously netted 11 goals during his loan spell with Stuttgart, is now turning heads among the upper echelons of European football.

With Kane and Guirassy in exceptional form, the records of yesteryears appear to be in constant jeopardy.

Kane’s current season kickoff is the best he’s ever experienced in terms of goals, with his involvement in 20 Bundesliga goals, including five assists, marking a personal record in his first ten league matches. He has amassed 17 goals in 13 games across all competitions for Bayern and an astounding 20 goals in 15 games when combining club and international appearances. Kane stands as the top scorer in world football for the ongoing season and has even outperformed Bayern’s leading league scorer from the previous season, Serge Gnabry, by a goal. One more Bundesliga goal would put Kane on par with the tally of last season’s top Bundesliga scorers, Niclas Füllkrug and Christopher Nkunku.

In an astonishing historical context, only Gerd Müller had previously managed to score as many goals in the first ten matches of a Bundesliga season (15), a feat he achieved during the 1968-69 season. Additionally, just seven players in Bundesliga history have scored 30 goals or more in a single season, and Kane is already halfway there. His highest Premier League goal tally was 30, which he achieved during the 2017/18 and 2022/23 seasons. Furthermore, Kane is merely two goals away from matching the English goalscoring record in a Bundesliga season, a record held by Kevin Keegan (1978-79 for Hamburger SV) and Jadon Sancho (2019-20 for Dortmund), both with 17 goals.

Kane’s remarkable debut in the Bundesliga has also seen him become the first player in league history to score a hat-trick in his first Klassiker appearance. He’s currently averaging a goal every 58 minutes in the Bundesliga.

While Lewandowski’s record appears increasingly attainable, Kane is also on track to equal Lionel Messi’s 50-goal feat for Barcelona in La Liga during the 2011-12 season. Messi’s accomplishment of 50 goals in 37 appearances is not only a La Liga record but also stands as the highest single-season tally by any player in the top five European leagues since the inception of the Premier League in 1992-93. Messi’s 73 goals across all competitions during the 2011-2012 season remain an awe-inspiring record.

Kane’s Bayern teammate Jamal Musiala expressed his delight in playing alongside Kane, acknowledging that Kane’s performance has surpassed expectations. Former Bayern Munich and Germany legend Lothar Matthäus stressed the importance of having a formidable number nine for Bayern Munich and German football in general, highlighting the impact Kane has had in his first three months with the club.

On the other hand, Serhou Guirassy’s astonishing start to the season is even more remarkable when considering his relatively ordinary career trajectory thus far. The 27-year-old, who was a France youth international, made his senior international debut for Guinea last season. His current tally of 15 goals across all competitions, including one in the German Cup, represents his best-ever season in terms of goals. Remarkably, he has now achieved four consecutive seasons of hitting double figures, with 13 and 12 goals for Rennes in 2020-21 and 2021-22, and 14 goals for Stuttgart in the previous season, after never previously exceeding nine goals.

In his prior stint in Germany from 2016 to 2019, he scored nine goals in 45 appearances for Cologne.
