Jeremy Doku played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s 6-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, notching a goal and providing four assists.

In the previous week’s triumph against Manchester United, Doku found himself on the bench, as Jack Grealish was the preferred choice. However, when Bournemouth came to town, their roles were reversed.

Pep Guardiola expressed his desire for Grealish to be motivated and deliver a strong performance, stating, “I want Jack [Grealish] angry and I want him to play good,”

Regarding Doku, Guardiola emphasized the need for him to feel a sense of frustration due to his absence from the last two games, as this approach helps maintain a high level of consistency.

With their Saturday win propelling Manchester City to the top of the Premier League, Belgian international Jeremy Doku, who was signed for £55.4 million from Rennes during the summer, has quickly acclimated to the team, tallying three goals across various competitions.

Doku, at 21 years old, is competing with England’s Jack Grealish for a regular starting spot in City’s attacking lineup. Grealish, who remained an unused substitute over the weekend and has yet to score in the league this season, faces stiff competition.

Guardiola noted, “As much as Jeremy and Jack perform, and I can play both at the same time, but when they don’t, train better the next day because the moment is coming, and when you are mentally there in the head you will perform well.”

“The way he [Grealish] played at Old Trafford, to give us more composure and more powers in that position, it was decisive for us.”

“We need everyone. There are a lot of games and everyone has to compete.”

“Then we will win games and you will be happy and everyone will be happy. This is what we have to do.”

He stressed the importance of every player in the squad, especially given the numerous upcoming matches, and encouraged healthy competition among the team members to ensure victories and overall happiness.

On Tuesday, City is set to host Young Boys, the Swiss champions, in the Champions League at 20:00 GMT.
