Jurgen Klopp couldn’t conceal his bewilderment when he learned that Manchester United had been eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Newcastle.

While Klopp’s Liverpool team secured a 2-1 victory against Bournemouth, advancing to the quarter-finals, Manchester United suffered another humiliating defeat, with goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall, and Joe Willock.

This loss followed their recent defeat to Manchester City in the derby, ending with the same 2-1 scoreline.

The outcome added more pressure on Erik ten Hag, who is at risk of being dismissed shortly after guiding the club to Carabao Cup success and a return to the Champions League.

Despite numerous setbacks this season, the Dutchman remained resolute, stating, “We have a lot of setbacks this season so far, but also you have to deal with it and that is never an excuse.”

The result at Old Trafford clearly caught Klopp off guard. Just before addressing the media after the Bournemouth match, he was informed of the result at Old Trafford, to which he seemingly responded with an intrigued “ooooo, okay,” and clenched his teeth in response.

This reaction was enthusiastically embraced by Liverpool fans who relish their rivals’ ongoing struggles. Meanwhile, Klopp expressed satisfaction with how his extensively changed lineup coped with the challenging conditions at the Vitality Stadium, which had been battered by Storm Ciaran.

Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, commented, “It’s a top, top, top cup game, it’s all about winning, it’s all about getting through.”

“The good thing today is I don’t have to speak about the circumstances because everybody saw it and felt it. It was really difficult, for both teams obviously.”

Substitute Darwin Nunez secured a remarkable 70th-minute winner, settling the fourth-round match played in relentless rain and gusty winds.

Cody Gakpo had given Liverpool a halftime advantage, while Bournemouth threatened to cause an upset, thanks to Justin Kluivert’s first goal in English football.

In the quarter-finals, Liverpool will host West Ham the week before Christmas, while Newcastle’s reward for their impressive victory over Manchester United is an away match against Chelsea.
