Erik ten Hag reportedly subjected his Manchester United team to a unique experience after their disappointing performance against Manchester City in Sunday’s derby.

Following a rather straightforward 3-0 victory for City at Old Trafford, which marked United’s fifth Premier League loss of the season, Ten Hag implemented a disciplinary measure.

He instructed the squad to sit in silence and listen to the boisterous celebrations emanating from the City team on the opposite side of the tunnel. This action was reported by The Sun.

Subsequently, any plans for a day off on Monday were promptly scrapped, and the players were informed that they would be assigned extra “homework.” This additional task involved studying personalized video footage from the game over the upcoming days.

The lacklustre defeat epitomized United’s challenging campaign, showcasing a distinct lack of synergy both in possession and without the ball. In truth, they were fortunate to concede only three goals.

In his post-game comments, Ten Hag expressed his frustration with the difficulty of instilling the style of football he had previously implemented with his Ajax team. He stated, “We will never play that football. Because those were different players. We are playing different football than I showed at Ajax because I have to, because I can’t play the same way.”

“The players decide how you play. Ajax has a very typical and characteristic style of play, with Manchester United I will always show different football. I did so last year as well. We play much more direct football here because I have the players for that here.”

As a result, United currently finds themselves in eighth place in the Premier League, trailing table-toppers Tottenham by 11 points and sitting eight points adrift of the top four.

The pressure on Ten Hag is mounting, but reports suggest that he will be granted an opportunity to reverse the team’s fortunes.

However, some fans remain sceptical, particularly in light of reports indicating that several players have raised concerns about the intensity of Ten Hag’s training sessions, which they believe may be contributing to fatigue and injuries.
