Former Arsenal’s former manager, Arsene Wenger, has set aside past rivalries to acknowledge that he sees Tottenham as one of the four clubs in contention for the Premier League title.

He attributes this belief to two summer acquisitions and the strategic repositioning of Son Heung-min.

Tottenham faced the loss of last season’s top scorer, Harry Kane, in August, but they currently lead the league table after an undefeated streak in their first ten matches of the season.

In their most recent match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, they secured a 2-1 victory, with their new captain, Son Heung-min, scoring his eighth league goal of the season.

Wenger points to Son’s transition to a central position as one of the noteworthy aspects that have impressed him about Ange Postecoglou’s team.

While Wenger acknowledges that his former club, Arsenal, is also a contender for the title, he firmly believes that their North London neighbors should be considered in the title conversation.

Wenger expressed his views on beIN Sports, saying, “I like always to say what I feel, really,”

“Deeply, I believe Tottenham will be one of the contenders for the league.”

“They bought Maddison, who is a great player. He is that link from low midfield to high midfield and added some technical creativity to the team.”

“They bought Van de Ven, who I find absolutely exceptional. They had weaknesses there and last season [Hugo] Lloris had not the best of seasons as well. And the movement from Son into the middle looks very good.”

When questioned by hosts Richard Keys and Andy Gray about whether he was serious about considering Spurs as title contenders rather than just top-four contenders, Wenger doubled down on his assertion, stating, “For the Premier League, I would say Arsenal for me, Liverpool, Tottenham, [Manchester] City of course will always come back,” he said. “They look like the four… at the moment for the Premier League.”

Despite their success, Tottenham faced challenges in their recent match against Palace. After a goalless first half, Joel Ward’s own goal gave Postecoglou’s team the lead, and Son scored a second goal before Jordan Ayew of Palace pulled one back late in the game.

The match also marked the return of midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, who made his first appearance of the season after nearly nine months out due to injury. Son expressed his delight at Bentancur’s return, saying, “We couldn’t wait to have him back and when he came on, I was getting emotional because he’s a good friend of mine,” the captain told club media.

“I enjoy every single moment with him, even last season when I was suffering with injury, he was always pushing me. I’m just really grateful he came back healthy, hopefully, he’ll now stay fit, and he will be a massive boost for the team. I’m very happy to have him back.”
