Sandro Tonali, the 23-year-old midfielder at Newcastle United, is reportedly set to have £11 million of his pay suspended due to a 10-month ban for betting breaches. Despite joining the Magpies from AC Milan in a £55 million deal last summer, Tonali will be sidelined until the beginning of the next season as he serves his suspension related to betting offenses during his time at Milan and Brescia.

Tonali will not be allowed to play but can continue training with Eddie Howe’s squad. The Turin prosecutor’s office is expected to announce the ban, which resulted from Tonali’s cooperation and admission of guilt. His testimony, willingness to undergo therapy, and participation in local associations and youth teams in Italy led to a reduction in the original four-year ban, ultimately settling at 10 months with an additional eight months of alternative sentences.

The financial repercussions for Tonali, who earns close to £140,000 per week, are substantial, with reports suggesting his salary will be suspended, costing him £11 million during the ban period. The club may use this situation to free up funds for a January replacement and is yet to comment on potential legal actions regarding the transfer fee paid for Tonali, considering his historical issues that may have been unknown to the club.

Here is the highlights video of Tonali’s skills at New Castle.
