Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has shared an amusing anecdote about Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous overhead kick during the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League.

In a quarterfinal clash between Juventus and Real Madrid, Ronaldo delivered a standout performance, netting a brace and assisting another goal in a 3-0 away victory.

The highlight of the match was Ronaldo’s stunning overhead kick, widely considered one of the greatest goals in Champions League history. After the breathtaking strike, Juventus fans, displaying great sportsmanship, rose to their feet to applaud the Portuguese superstar.

Recalling the moment, Buffon disclosed that he was left in disbelief, and it was then that Ronaldo approached him. The Italian goalkeeper recounted, “Seeing me in disbelief, he approached me and said ‘Not bad, is it Gigi?,’ and I started laughing.”

The ovation from the Allianz Stadium is believed to have been a pivotal factor in Ronaldo’s subsequent move to Juventus in 2018. Ronaldo and Buffon later shared the pitch as teammates for the Old Lady, reuniting in 2019 when Buffon rejoined Juventus from Paris Saint-Germain, making 26 appearances together.
