Sheikh Jassim, a Qatari banker, has reportedly abandoned his plans to acquire Manchester United after the Glazer family rejected his offer of over $6 billion. The Glazers, who acquired the club in 2005 for $958 million, announced their contemplation of selling the club in November 2022.

After nearly a year of deliberation, Sheikh Jassim and British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe were among the few individuals who remained committed to making a formal offer. United’s financial statements from March indicated a loan amount of $1.18 billion.

Reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be open to purchasing a minority stake in the club. Sheikh Jassim’s offer not only included the acquisition of Manchester United for over $6 billion but also a commitment to clear the club’s existing debts. However, the Glazer family ultimately declined his proposal, leading to his withdrawal from the purchase attempt.
