Reports from Mundo Deportivo have emerged in the wake of the warm reception Cristiano Ronaldo received in Iran, where Al Nassr played Persepolis in the Asian Champions League group stage.
During his visit, Ronaldo was generously gifted by adoring fans, including personalized Persian rugs and portraits of the footballer.
Among the artists who presented gifts to Ronaldo was Fatima Hamimi, an artist based in Persepolis who is 85 percent paralyzed and relies on a wheelchair for mobility. Remarkably, she creates art using her feet due to her inability to use her hands.
In a gesture of gratitude for her gift, Ronaldo reportedly shared a hug with the artist and kissed her on the cheek.
This gesture stirred controversy among some of Iran’s conservative lawmakers because, under Iranian law, physical contact with a woman when one is in a committed relationship is considered a form of adultery.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been in a relationship with model Georgina Rodriguez since 2016, and they have two children together, Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda. Additionally, Rodriguez is the mother of Ronaldo’s three other children, Cristiano Jr. and twins Eva and Mateo, who were born via surrogate.
Rodriguez and the children had moved to Saudi Arabia with Ronaldo when he joined Al-Nassr, a move that was officially confirmed on New Year’s Eve the previous year.
Mundo Deportivo reported that the Iranian TV station Sharq Emroz indicated that a sentence of 99 lashes for adultery had been issued against Ronaldo for his actions. However, Marca stated that the sentence could be revoked if Ronaldo expressed remorse for his actions.
In contrast, the Iranian embassy in Spain has denied any punitive measures, stating, “We strongly deny the issuance of any court ruling against any international athlete in Iran.”
“His (Ronaldo’s) sincere and humane meeting with Fatemeh Hamami was also praised and admired by both the people and the country’s sports authorities.”
