Kepa Arrizabalaga, the Chelsea goalkeeper currently on loan at Real Madrid, hopes for a permanent switch to the prestigious Spanish club. The Spain international’s loan to Real Madrid addressed the void created by Courtois’ long-term injury.

Courtois suffered a knee ligament injury in August, sidelining him until possibly March. This led Real Madrid to seek a new goalkeeper, and Kepa arrived.

Kepa left Chelsea in 2018 and was expected to depart last summer after challenges during his five-year Stamford Bridge tenure. Chelsea acquired Robert Sanchez from Brighton, indicating Kepa’s competition for the starting role. Yet, Kepa opted for Real Madrid.

Kepa expressed his aspiration during his loan spell, stating, “I aim for a long-term stay at Real Madrid. Who wouldn’t want to be part of such a club? I’m highly content here.”

Kepa has played nine games at Real Madrid this season, keeping five clean sheets and conceding seven goals. With one year left on Kepa’s Chelsea contract next summer, Real Madrid may secure his permanent transfer at a reduced cost.
