The former winger, who previously played for Tottenham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Everton, has recently signed a contract with Luton Town, extending until January. Townsend had been without a club since his contract at Goodison Park expired during the summer.

Expressing his thoughts on the new deal with Luton, Townsend stated, “I feel like it’s a good fit and these last couple of weeks have been good for both parties.”

He emphasized the importance of ensuring the right fit for both sides during their recent discussions. “I think it had to be right and I feel over the last two weeks we’ve had a look at each other and done that.”

“I’ve seen where I can help this team and on the flipside the manager has seen where I can help – whether that’s on the pitch, in the dressing room or on the training field – with my enthusiasm and experience.”

“Plus, Luton are my local team – I live 20-25 minutes away so I’ve kept my eye on their progress and watching the Championship play-off final and see them win promotion was great for the club.”

“I never thought I’d pull on the Luton shirt, so it’s a huge honour to play again in the Premier League for this club, and hopefully get help this club get as many points as we can and see where it takes us.”

The 32-year-old, who has represented England with 13 caps, left Everton in July after a two-year stint. He went on to describe his brief experience with Burnley: “At the end of June, beginning of July I was invited first and foremost to go and train at Burnley, just to keep fit and get going,”

“Then they soon realised, ‘This guy has still got it, still got what it takes.”

“So the manager pulled me into his office and said, ‘Listen we’re interested, we want to see you against good opposition. We’re going to take you on tour to Portugal and see you against high level opposition.”

“Went to Portugal, played a couple of games, Genk, played very well against Benfica, played 90 minutes. The next day I was offered a one-year deal, got back to England, went for my medical straight away.”

“Passed the medical, I thought, ‘Right, I’m ready to sign’, I’m in the shower ready to go to the CEO after my shower and go and say, ‘Shall I wait around, is the contract almost ready?”

“As I’m in the shower, somebody from the coaching staff pulls me and says, ‘Andros, the manager wants to see you in his office whenever you’re done.”

“So I went and got dressed, went up to the managers’ office and for one reason or another, the contract was no longer on the table for reasons I didn’t understand.”

“It’s recently come out, the manager said in his press conference that other options that they were looking at had become available and injuries they had in the building had come back sooner than they thought.”

“It’s a decision I didn’t agree with but that’s life, we shook hands, we hugged it out, we went our separate ways and now I’m back here looking for another opportunity.”

Andros Townsend now joins Luton Town, a club that has recently ascended to the Premier League. Luton currently occupies the 17th position in the Premier League standings, having accumulated four points from their first eight matches.
