Paul Pogba is confronting the possibility of a four-year football ban after his B sample confirmed a positive result.
Following a positive test last month, Pogba received a provisional suspension from anti-doping authorities. Subsequently, the secondary sample provided by the Frenchman has yielded the same outcome.
It is believed that traces of a substance were detected in Pogba’s system after Juventus’ Serie A opener against Udinese at the Stadio Friuli in Udine. Pogba, who returned to Turin from Manchester United in 2022, was on the bench during the match and did not participate.
Nevertheless, he was chosen for anti-doping screening, during which he produced the positive test results. Subsequently, Pogba was granted a three-day window to supply a B sample for further analysis, and it has also returned a positive result.
Pogba will now undergo questioning by an anti-doping tribunal. If found guilty, he could potentially face a two-year suspension. However, in the event that Pogba is determined to have knowingly engaged in doping, the penalty could be extended to four years.
He now has one week to assemble his defense and is expected to appear before the tribunal within two to four weeks.
