Liverpool forward Diogo Jota received his second yellow card and was subsequently sent off after committing a foul on Udogie during the game.

In response to the incident, Tottenham issued a statement expressing their strong disapproval of the racist messages that were directed at Destiny Udogie on social media following the match against Liverpool.

The club made it clear that they stand in solidarity with Udogie and will collaborate with the Premier League to take action against any individuals they can identify in connection with this issue.

Destiny Udogie, who joined Tottenham in August 2022 from Udinese and was loaned back to the Italian side for the 2022-23 season, has been an integral part of the team’s success this season, starting in all seven Premier League matches under manager Ange Postecoglou and contributing to their unbeaten start.

Liverpool FC also condemned all forms of racism and discrimination, stating their intention to cooperate with relevant authorities and social media platforms to identify those responsible and impose the most severe consequences possible.

Kick It Out, an anti-discrimination charity, expressed its deep dismay at the targeting of Destiny Udogie. Troy Townsend, head of player engagement at Kick It Out, emphasized that no amount of controversy or strong emotions related to a game can justify such abhorrent outbursts.

Townsend highlighted the alarming frequency with which players are subjected to social media abuse using the most offensive language, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability.

He noted that high-profile players have been targeted nearly every weekend since the start of the season in August, underscoring the ongoing challenge of combating discrimination in football.

Townsend called upon social media companies to address this issue with the seriousness it deserves and mentioned that they have reported instances of racist abuse directed at Udogie to the appropriate authorities.
