In the most recent demonstration by home supporters, hundreds of tennis balls were launched onto the field at the Select Car Leasing Stadium. This marks the second consecutive home match in which fans have expressed their discontent with owner Dai Yongge.

Stewards had to enter the field to remove the tennis balls, leading referee Sam Purkiss to suspend the game temporarily. During the protest handling, players from both teams retreated to the tunnel. The match was paused for just a few minutes.

At the time of the suspension, the score remained tied at 0-0, with neither team managing to break the deadlock before the brief interruption.

Reading’s troubles deepened this week as the EFL imposed another transfer embargo on the club.

Additionally, they faced the threat of further point deductions if they failed to pay their players on time. The team, managed by Ruben Selles, has already incurred a four-point deduction this season, leaving them in the League One relegation zone.

Despite the challenges, there is a glimmer of hope for supporters, as Dai Yongge has expressed his willingness to sell the club. A club statement revealed: “The club continues to suffer significant cashflow issues.”

“In striving to establish external investment, we can confirm there has been significant interest.”

“Discussions and due diligence processes with a number of these potential investors continue apace.”

“Our owner, Mr Dai, is openly inviting further credible offers of interest and declarations of intent from parties eager to pursue a potential sale of the club.”
