In a high-stakes clash, Liverpool’s remarkable 19-game unbeaten run in all competitions was shattered in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. The match was riddled with contentious decisions that left players, managers, and fans fuming.

Liverpool found themselves down to 10 men from the 26th minute due to a red card and faced further adversity when Diogo Jota received a 69th-minute ejection, leaving them with just nine players to finish the game. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Liverpool put up a valiant effort, only to be heartbroken by Joel Matip’s own goal in the dying moments of extra time.

Adding to the drama, PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) conceded that VAR had erred in disallowing Louis Diat’s goal during the match. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp expressed his exasperation, stating, “Who is this announcement going to help? We can’t announce this… What killed the match was the second red card. Many other decisions during the game were unfair.”

Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool’s defender, echoed Klopp’s sentiments, saying, “I’ve lost faith… It’s all a little strange. I don’t know who is sitting in the VAR room making decisions.”

The match was officiated by Simon Hooper, with VAR oversight by Darren England.
