Barcelona, one of Europe’s football giants, could face expulsion from the Champions League following bribery allegations leveled against the club. A Spanish court has officially charged Barcelona with bribery, and if found guilty, the consequences could be severe.

The charges stem from alleged bribery activities that involved former vice president Marina Enrique and reportedly took place between 2001 and 2018. Barcelona executive Laporte has also been implicated in the case. Both Barcelona and Laporte have vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

Earlier this year, Barcelona’s current president, La Porter, suggested that some individuals were attempting to undermine the team, further complicating the situation. The club was previously instructed to appoint an additional technical advisor and pay an additional fee in February.

The repercussions could extend beyond the club, as former Barcelona president Bartomeu, Roselle, President Negira, and his son Javier may also face prosecution if the case proceeds. UEFA, the governing body of European football, is expected to conduct its own investigation into the matter.

Despite the ongoing legal challenges, UEFA has confirmed Barcelona’s participation in the 2023-24 European Championship. However, if the club is ultimately found guilty, UEFA may impose a ban on their participation in the prestigious Champions League.
