Inter Milan’s flawless start to the Serie A season was brought to an end as they suffered an unexpected 2-1 defeat at home to Sassuolo on Wednesday.

Denzel Dumfries put Inter ahead just before halftime, but a rapid turn of events in the second half, including a sensational goal by Domenico Berardi, handed Sassuolo another notable victory, following their 4-2 win against Juventus over the weekend.

This outcome resulted in Inter and their city rivals, AC Milan, sharing the same number of points at the summit of the table, thanks in part to the contribution of United States international Christian Pulisic, who played a pivotal role in Rossoneri’s 3-1 win over Cagliari.

Inter had aimed to secure their sixth consecutive victory in an impressive start to the season, and they had been the only unbeaten team left in Serie A.

Initially, things seemed to be going according to plan when they took the lead during stoppage time in the first half. Dumfries made a brilliant move, cutting inside from the right and skillfully navigating past one defender before slotting the ball between the legs of another and into the bottom left corner.

However, the warning signs had already appeared, and Sassuolo managed to level the score in the 54th minute when Berardi found Nedim Bajrami, whose shot squeezed in between Inter’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer and the near post.

Berardi then added his name to the scoresheet nine minutes later, executing a superb curling strike into the bottom left corner after cutting inside.
