Federico Dimarco secured the solitary goal as Inter Milan extended their flawless beginning to the Serie A season, clinching a 1-0 victory against Empoli, who currently occupy the bottom position in the league, this past Sunday.

Simone Inzaghi’s squad shifted into a higher gear following a hard-fought first half, ultimately prevailing against a team that had recently dismissed their coach after suffering a humiliating seven-goal defeat by Roma.

Dimarco reaffirmed Inter’s supremacy in the domestic competition with a spectacular half-volley that found the back of the net, just six minutes into the second half.

The French international Marcus Thuram came close to adding a second goal but was thwarted by the crossbar in the 77th minute. He was subsequently substituted for Chilean Alexis Sanchez, marking his return to Serie A after spending the previous season at Marseille.

Dimarco commented on the significance of the victory, stating, “It’s an important victory, it wasn’t easy, but it allows us to send a message to the other teams,”

Inzaghi added, “We had to wait until the second period to gain the upper hand, but we managed this match well, with the right approach,”

“It’s only the fifth round, we know that everything can change quickly in football, but I am satisfied with my players, with their mental attitude.”

Inter, the reigning champions from 2021, remain the only team in the league yet to drop a single point this season, boasting a three-point lead over their closest rivals, AC Milan, who secured a 1-0 win against Verona on Saturday.

Juventus, on the other hand, finds themselves already five points adrift, having suffered a 4-2 defeat against Sassuolo, who currently occupy the 11th position in the league.

Inter’s next fixture is against Sassuolo midweek, although they will be without Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic, who succumbed to a “serious injury” to his left thigh, as announced by the club.
