Former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun’s move to Monaco took an unfortunate turn as he missed two penalties in their recent defeat against Nice. Chelsea fans, who had been linked to Balogun, expressed relief at the missed opportunities.

Balogun, 22, sealed a permanent move to Ligue 1 for an initial £30 million during the summer transfer window. Although heavily linked to Chelsea, his third appearance for Monaco was marred by penalty woes. He had a penalty saved by former Chelsea youth player Marcin Bulka in the 12th minute, followed by an identical repeat in the 55th minute.

Chelsea fans took to social media to express their relief, with one comment stating, “Thank God Chelsea did not sign him.” Another questioned the source of the Chelsea link, while others noted that the club had dodged a bullet.

To compound Balogun’s misfortune, Jeremie Boga, a former Chelsea player, scored the 91st-minute winner for Nice, deepening the Chelsea connection in the match.

Balogun explained his decision to join Monaco, citing the club’s history and the opportunity to step out of his comfort zone as motivating factors.
