Andre Onana acknowledges his part in Manchester United’s Champions League setback

Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, claimed responsibility for his team's Champions League loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Andre Onana Says He Let Manchester United Down

The German team scored twice within a span of four minutes during the first half at the Allianz Arena, paving the way for their 4-3 victory in the opening match of Group A.

A miscue by the Cameroonian international, Onana, allowed the Bundesliga side to take the lead when he allowed winger Leroy Sane’s seemingly weak shot to slip past him and find the back of the net.

“It’s difficult to lose this way because I feel in the beginning, we started very good. After my mistake, we lost the control of the game,” Onana told TNT Sports.

“It’s a difficult situation and for me especially because I’m the one who let the team down. But the team was very good; I think it’s because of me that they didn’t win this game.”
“We just have to move on. This is the life of the goalkeeper and, if we didn’t win today, it is because of me.”

Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, expressed confidence in Onana, who joined the club from Inter Milan in July.

“(In) football on the whole, (there) will always be mistakes, and this is one mistake,” the Dutchman told the press.  “So, we also don’t make it bigger than it is.”

“He will bounce back, and he is a very important player.”
