Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly halted contract negotiations with star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian midfielder’s current contract is nearing its final year, but discussions have been put on hold. De Bruyne, 32, has been a pivotal player for coach Pep Guardiola’s team and played a crucial role in Manchester City’s historic treble last season.

However, the new football season brought a setback when De Bruyne suffered a hamstring injury in the opening Premier League match against Burnley. This injury has led to the suspension of contract talks, with the club waiting for De Bruyne to recover from his lengthy layoff. The player underwent surgery and is unlikely to rejoin the team before the New Year.

De Bruyne currently earns £375,000 per week, and Guardiola is keen to secure his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium. The manager has reportedly proposed a two-year contract extension that would keep De Bruyne at the club until he turns 36. However, if an agreement is not reached, the club may face the possibility of losing De Bruyne on a free transfer when his contract expires.

Since joining Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne has made 358 appearances, scored 96 goals, provided 153 assists, and won five Premier League titles and one Champions League with the team.
