In the aftermath of Manchester United’s 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, manager Erik ten Hag has found solace in the way the fans reacted to the substitution of debutant Rasmus Hojlund. Thousands of United supporters expressed their disapproval when Hojlund was replaced with the team trailing 2-0 in the 64th minute, with Anthony Martial taking his place.
Regarding the fans’ reaction, Ten Hag stated, “I think it was positive. You see the fans in the first moment in Old Trafford, the reception for him was great, I think he performed very well, it’s good they give this signal, this message, it will give Rasmus belief.”
Hojlund’s substitution was pre-planned due to a previous injury, and Ten Hag emphasized, “He is not ready for a whole game and we have many games to play at short notice, so we have to build the fitness.”
When asked if the boos were intensified because of Hojlund’s replacement, Ten Hag defended Martial, saying, “I think Anthony Martial last year, every time he played he had a very positive effect on our games.”
Despite concerns about United’s recent results, Ten Hag does not view it as a crisis but is looking for character and unity to lead the team back to winning ways.
