Matheus Cunha’s Liverpool miss declared the worst of the season so far

During his time with Wolves, Matheus Cunha made a strong case for the title of “worst miss of the Premier League season.” This incident occurred as the Brazilian international, without any pressure from the Liverpool defence, inexplicably miscalculated a perfectly delivered cross from Pedro Neto. Instead of finding the back of the net, Cunha’s header went straight into the ground, leaving the home fans in disbelief.

Hwang Hee-chan had previously opened the scoring for Wolves, but Cunha’s miss prevented them from extending their lead to 2-0. Darren Fletcher, providing commentary for TNT Sports, expressed his astonishment, saying, “How on earth is it not 2-0? A brilliant chance by Pedro Neto again. Just sensational.”

On social media, the miss didn’t go unnoticed, with one comment stating, “Cunha with the worst miss of the season so far. This one is unbelievable.”

Another user added, “How did Cunha misread that so badly? Surely the miss of the season.”

A third individual concurred, saying, “Great performance from everyone except Cunha. Everyone and his dog knows he isn’t a striker, that miss was unbelievable.”

A fourth commenter insisted, “Nah, someone clip that Cunha miss RIGHT NOW.”

Wolves had initially taken the lead through Hee-Chan, thanks to more impressive work from Neto, who forced the ball over the line. Liverpool, who were hoping to claim the top spot in the table, struggled to gain control of the match before halftime.

Jurgen Klopp attempted to change the dynamics of the game by bringing on Luis Diaz during halftime, and Cody Gakpo equalized shortly before his substitution.

Klopp acknowledged the competitiveness of the Premier League, saying before the match, “It’s the Premier League, if you asked me now: ‘Is there any away ground where you like to go and think oh my God, we have the points already,’ there is none.”

He added, “Players like Hwang and Sasa Kalajdzic don’t even start. They still have Neto and other guys, so it’s a really, really good football team, and that’s the team we prepare for.”
