On Monday, the Brazilian media outlet UOL reported new accusations made by his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin. In a statement posted on Instagram in June, Antony claimed that Ms Cavallin had accused him in error of using domestic violence.

In response to new allegations, Antony stated on Monday that he “trusts ongoing police investigations” to establish the “truth about my innocence.”

The Brazilian FA declared that Gabriel Jesus had been selected in place of Antony for the September World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.

Antony issued a second denial on social media on July 1 following a first denial on June 28.

“I can say with confidence that accusations are false and that the evidence already produced show that I am innocent of the accusations made. My relationship with Ms Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal offences from both sides, but I never practiced any physical aggression.

I trust that the ongoing police investigations will demonstrate the truth about my innocence.”
