Everton claims to be aware of a racist internet comment sent against Amadou Onana and has vehemently denounced all racial and discriminatory abuse directed at its players.
Following Everton’s 4-0 loss against Aston Villa, Onana reported the racial abuse he received on Instagram. The club has since issued a statement on the situation via their Twitter account. “Everton Football Club vehemently condemns any form of racist and discriminatory abuse toward our players,” it states.
“The club is aware that Amadou Onana was the victim of a racist tweet. Such horrible behavior will not be condoned and should not be. The club is launching an inquiry to find the offender and will aid the police in whatever investigations they carry out.
“By reporting such behavior to social media networks and the authorities, we must collectively adopt a zero tolerance policy. Racism has no place in our neighborhoods, on the internet, or in our stadiums.
