After his previous team’s weekend loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Roy Keane, a former captain of Manchester United, delivered a critical assessment of his former team’s issues.

The Reds got off to a decent start in the first half but faded after Pape Matar Sarr gave the hosts the lead and Lisandro Martinez’s own goal handed the hosts victory. After the game, Keane referred to the United team as “the new Spurs” and outlined the problems Erik ten Hag has to fix, including the midfield’s structure and their road performances.

The Reds are running out of time to bring in new players with less than ten days left until the transfer window ends. Here is a list of tasks that Ten Hag has after reading Keane’s appraisal of the Spurs’ loss.

Keane claimed that United were too simple to play through and didn’t tackle Spurs well when they had the ball. The midfield combination of Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Bruno Fernandes has shown to be problematic in the first two games, and the front three’s lack of pressing further adds to the burden on United’s defense.

To assist Caemiro’s defensive efforts, United has been connected with adding a second new midfielder. However, if Ten Hag believes the Reds need additional cover and agility to reorganize the team’s midfield balance, the addition of Scott McTominay might prove to be a temporary fix if the Reds are in dire need of more steeliness and tenacity.
