Greenwood was detained in January 2022 as a result of suspicions involving online-published content.
The 21-year-old England international was cleared of charges on February 2, 2023, including attempted rape and violence.
“All those involved, including Mason, recognize the difficulties with him resuming his career at Manchester United,” the club stated in a statement.Therefore, it has been decided that it would be best for him to do so outside of Old Trafford, and we will now cooperate with Mason to make that happen.We have determined, based on the information at our disposal, that the internet content did not present a whole picture and that Mason did not conduct the offenses for which he was first accused. Having said that, Mason publicly acknowledged his shortcomings today and accepted responsibility for them.
