During the post-game interviews, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola paid tribute to his friend and former Brescia coach Carlo Mazzone in a way that he would have liked.

The 86-year-old Mazzone passed away this morning, and the news broke only hours before Manchester City defeated Newcastle United 1-0 in a Premier League match.

Guardiola had just enough time to purchase a T-shirt that included a caricature of the iconic scene in which Mazzone raced from one side of the field to the other to yell at the Atalanta fans who had been jeering him for the previous 90 minutes.

He accomplished it after Roberto Baggio tied the game at 3-3 for Brescia.

Mazzone and Guardiola were coworkers in Brescia and were friends for many years. In fact, the manager personally invited Mazzone to the 2009 Champions League Final.

This incident occurred in September 2001 and is the one that the jersey is alluding to. Mazzone received a five-match suspension for it, which he felt was well worth it.
